Posting Settings
Previous  Top  Next

The Posting Settings section controls how the messages you send are formatted.

Use Outbasket

When Use Outbasket is selected, XanaNews doesn't post messages straight away when you send them. Instead it puts them in a special folder called the Outbasket. You can post them later by selecting 'Send Outbasket' from the Tools menu.

Maximum Line Length

Set the maximum line length to determine the point where XanaNews wraps lines of text it posts. Some newsgroup specification recommend a maximum of 72.

Split Post with More than 'n' Lines

Some servers require that you split posts into two or more messages if they have more than a certain number of lines. This is especially common when posting messages with large binary attachments. XanaNews will automatically split the post into messages - "Subject [1/3]", "Subject [2/3]", "Subject [3/3]".

Default Character Set

Set the default character set to match the language you usually post in.

Default ISpell Language

Set the language you want the spell checker to use.

Text Format

You can set various text formats in XanaNews. If in doubt leave it set to NNTP.

·NNTP

The NNTP format is the original, basic format for posting to newsgroups and it is probably still the most commonly used. It supports raw (US-ASCII) text and, attachments as specially encoded (UUE) blocks.

Note that if you select a Default Character set, XanaNews will automatically use MIME-Raw instead of NNTP.

·MIME - Raw

MIME - Raw is automatically used in preference to 'NNTP' if you specify a non-USASCII character set. All text is sent as raw 8-bit characters encoded using the character set you specified. Attachments are sent as Base-64 encoded MIME attachments.

·MIME - Flowed

Uses the 'flowed' format for sending text. This allows the original paragraph format to be recovered, while also supporting older newsreaders that require a maximum line length.

·MIME - Quoted Printable

Uses the 'Quoted Printable' format for sending text.

Reply Style

The Reply Style lets you select whether your replies to messages should follow any quoted text, or precede it.

Traditionally in USENET most people prefer you to Bottom Post

Archive Posted Messages

If 'Archive Posted Messages' is selected, posted messages are automatically copied into the 'Posted Messages' folder when you send them.
